The Truth About The Abs Workout

by Matt Santi

Growing up, we were always told that crunches are the ultimate abs workout. However, it seems that all of those crunches we have been doing for years and years are ultimately a huge of waste of our precious time.

Many of those looking for great abs have turned to crunches as part of their daily routine, but what they may not know is that doing crunches daily can actually hinder your abs workout efforts.

We have always thought that crunches will give the muscles of the stomach the workout they need to burn fat and fast.

The reality is that crunches are not effective in any way, shape, or form and essentially just a waste of time. What is more, not only are you wasting your time, but also causing yourself some unneeded soreness.

Why has the age-old exercise all of the sudden decided not to work? The truth is it was always a real waste of time, never did work. Why? Well, think about it, when you gain weight, how do you gain it? Do you gain it just in your stomach?

No, you gain it everywhere. Therefore, within your abs workout, you need to focus on more than just the stomach. You need to consider a whole body workout. Body fat cannot be burned by doing crunches.

You are wasting your time; instead, you need to be combining strength training, cardio, and diet all together to obtain the results you are looking for.

Secondly, it has been found that the only true way of eliminating belly fat is to boost your metabolism within your abs workout. Crunches are not the proper exercise for boosting metabolism.

Boosting your metabolism within your abs workout means implementing total body exercises. Working the muscles more means a boost in metabolism. The muscles you should be focusing on to increase metabolism are your back, chest, arms, and legs.

Of course, to really get the results you want, you do not want a boring abs workout. Where would your motivation be? If you get bored with your abs workout, you will find yourself talking yourself out of exercising at all.

At the same time, your body is adaptable; it can become somewhat immune to your exercises, particularly the same ones. In other words, if you are repeatedly doing 100s of crunches, your body says, "hey, I've done too many of these" and they become even less effective than they were in the beginning.

The best way to get a great abs workout is to implement the core exercises, give your body the workout it needs to burn fat, and get those great abs.
